This course explores the latest advancements in digital dentistry with a focus on intraoral scanning and patient communication. Participants will discover simplified workflows using scanning, advanced digital tools, and simplified methods for capturing photos, videos, and patient information to enhance education and collaboration with the dental team.
  
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the latest advancements in intraoral scanning technology and their applications in everyday practice.
  • Apply simplified digital workflows that integrate scanning, imaging, and patient information for improved efficiency.
  • Develop skills in creating and organizing photos and videos to enhance patient education and case communication.
  • Collaborate more effectively with the dental laboratory and team through streamlined digital communication tools.

Dr. Gürkan Ünsal is an Assistant Professor at the Schulich School of Dentistry, Western University, with expertise in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in dentistry. His research focuses on diagnostic imaging, particularly in temporomandibular joint disorders and oral cancers. Dr. Ünsal has authored numerous articles and book chapters on diagnostic imaging and has been actively involved in international projects, including the ITU/WHO Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (FG-AI4H). He is a strong advocate for incorporating AI technologies into clinical practice to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient care.

In addition to his research, Dr. Ünsal is an educator, teaching oral radiology to both undergraduate and graduate dental students. He also holds an associate degree in Web Design and Coding, which he utilizes in developing AI software for oral radiology.
