Clinical Preceptorship Programs
The following program outlines are under review and may be revised for additional clarification at our discretion. If a course is closed to new applications, it will be noted in the section right below this. Also, start and end dates for most programs cannot be adjusted. Please read the course outline for more information.

APPLICATIONS

- Please note, if you applied to a Masters or Post Graduate program at RSDM, you cannot apply to any of our Preceptorship programs until a decision has been made on your first application.
- We do not accept Email or other electronic submissions.
- Completed application form, all required documentation and application fee (see note below regarding fee payment) are to be mailed or sent by express mail to address on page 4 of the application form.
- Submit all required documents in the same package. Note: submitted documents become the property of Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
- Incomplete applications will not be submitted for department review until all required information is provided.
- Do not staple documents. Please use one or two paperclips to secure all paperwork. Plastic sleeves and extra envelopes are also not necessary.
- If you need verification that your package was delivered, we recommend that you use a delivery service that can track it. Due to the volume of applications, plus other responsibilities we have, it is not possible to reply to emails requesting verification that it was received. You will receive a receipt by email for your application fee.
- Do not include certificates for one-day courses. Your continuing education activities should be listed in your CV.
- TOEFL code for Rutgers School of Dental Medicine – 2584. It would be helpful if you would request original paper reports, it will help to save time as the reports sent via the code address do not come directly to us.
- All programs have limited enrollment.
- You may apply for only one course at a time. If you have applied to a Masters or Post Graduate program, please wait until you have a decision from it before applying to a Clinical Preceptorship.
- Our academic year runs from July 1 to May 30.
- Applications for the eleven month Clinical Preceptorship programs (starting July 1) may be sent between September 1 and April 15.
- Short-term Preceptorship programs due dates are:
- April 15 for the July 1 start date.
- June 1 for the September 1 start date (only for programs with 3 month option.)
- October 15 for the January 2 start date.
- December 1 for the March 1 start date (only for programs with 3 month option.)
- We do accept late applications, but initial acceptances will be done early and may close the program to new applications.
- Applicants submitting applications with less than 2½ months to the expected start date must be fully compliant with their immunization and health requirements before they will receive the formal acceptance package.
- Application fees are Non-Refundable.
- For payment by check we accept: bank checks paid in U.S. dollars, money orders, and personal checks if it is from a U.S. bank.
- For your convenience we now also accept online payments for application fees only for our Clinical Preceptorship programs. We accept MasterCard, Visa and Discover.

Type “Application Fee” in the subject line, and include how and when the application was sent. And, please sign your email with the full name you have on the application, not a nickname.
TUITION
Tuition Deposits
- Deposits are non-refundable.
- For most of the eleven month Clinical Preceptorship Programs the deposit amount is $3,500 U.S. Deposit for the Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry program is $5,000 U.S.
- For the shorter length (5-1/2 and 3 months) Preceptorship programs the deposit amount is $2,000 U.S.
- Payment may be made with a bank/cashier’s check, money order, or by wire transfer (for international payments only.)
- The deposit is applied to the total tuition due, it is not an additional fee.
- Deadline for receipt of the deposit is 10 business days from the date of the pre-acceptance notification. The formal acceptance package will be sent after the deposit is received.
- Note: the formal acceptance package is the document international participants will use to apply for an F-1 visa. Visit the Rutgers Global website (see link below) for more information.
- Due to time constraints, all correspondence from us is done by email. If you need to contact us, please use cde@sdm.rutgers.edu. Please do not call our office.
Tuition
- See program outlines for actual tuition for each offering.
- Payment of the tuition balance is due one month prior to the start date of the program.
- We do NOT offer payment plans for our programs.
Cancellation Policy

IMMUNIZATION AND HEALTH
All continuing education Clinical Preceptors must be cleared by Rutgers’ Student Health Services PRIOR to starting their programs. The official form with instructions will be sent to you with your acceptance letter. Please note, continuing education participants are not eligible to use the University’s student health clinics, you have to use your own doctor.
- AVOID SURPRISES, review this CHECK LIST now with your doctor.
- Applicants submitting applications with less than 2½ months to the expected start date must be fully compliant with their immunization and health requirements before they will receive the formal acceptance package.
